ESP entered the guitar-making business in 1975 and have consistently delivered high quality instruments. Most of the early models were strongly influenced by Fender and built in Japan or Germany.

A more affordable line, the Grass Roots series, started production in Korea in 1980 but ESP remains best known for building high-end guitars.
